Begin with a visit to the Grand Mosque, the most iconic landmark of Muscat. Closed to visitors on Fridays and public holidays, the mosque, completed in 2001, is a striking masterpiece of modern design fused with traditional artistry. Admire its vast prayer hall with handmade carpets, brilliant chandeliers, and the elegant dome. Women are asked to dress fully covered with a scarf, and men should wear trousers.

Proceed with a scenic drive along the Corniche, then explore the bustling Muttrah Souq. Later, make a stop at Al Alam Palace, the ceremonial residence of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, framed by the Portuguese forts of Mirani and Jalali. Continue with the Bait Al Zubair Museum, which houses artefacts depicting Oman’s cultural and historical legacy. Conclude the tour with a return to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Head to the Marina for a boat excursion into Oman’s waters. This morning, embark on a dolphin-watching cruise, where playful pods can often be seen gliding through the waves. On rare occasions, whales may also appear in these waters close to Muscat’s rugged coastline. Even without sightings, the sea trip itself is refreshing and informative.

Today, set off to Nizwa, once Oman’s historic capital and the birthplace of Islam in the region. Take a photo stop at the 17th-century Round Tower Fort and explore Nizwa Souq, famous for khanjars, silver jewellery, and the bustling Friday livestock auction.

From there, continue to Wadi Al Madeen and drive up the 36-kilometre mountain road leading to Jebel Akhdar. Perched 2000 metres above sea level, the “Green Mountain” offers rare cool air, fertile valleys, and spectacular scenery. Spend the evening at Sama Jabal Akhdar Hotel and enjoy an overnight stay.

After breakfast, explore Al Jebel Al Akhdar’s terraced orchards, natural springs, and aflaj irrigation. Visit the villages of Saiq, Wadi Bani Habib, Roose, and Al Ain, each offering panoramic views of mountains and wadis. If travelling in spring, the blooming roses add fragrance to the air, and villagers prepare rose water through traditional distillation. Light clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended.
